Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by. My name is Kelly, and photography is my art. It has evolved with me over the years. Aside from being a photo maker, I have the privilege of being a wife to my best friend Cory, and mama to two boys, Everett and Conrad. My husband recently accepted a job in Texas, and we are in the midst of a move from our hometown of Cannon Falls, Minnesota to San Antonio. I can’t wait to explore Texas and all of the natural light and dreamy photo settings it has to offer for endless sessions.
As someone who has always appreciated photos and living creatively, I developed my heart for photography on accident when I spent about a month working on a documentary project about Navajo Elders on the Reservation in Tsaile, Arizona. This is where I truly began to appreciate the visual aspect of storytelling. I came home from that trip and switched my major from journalism to photography so I could learn everything a Bachelor’s Degree had to offer me. Six months later, I went on another travel study to New Zealand and Australia that focused on landscape imagery. I wanted to learn it all.
My courses instilled in me a great appreciation about the technical elements, history and culture of different types of photography, but a new level of education began when I went “into the field” and started as a second shooter at weddings in 2012.
Anxious to learn, and eager to try everything, I soon began shooting portraits, concerts, professional sports, and more weddings on my own. It began as a side gig—I worked a lot of other jobs (sometimes four at once) so that I could continue to build my portfolio and clientele. I became addicted to capturing life in images and telling people’s stories.
After the birth of my first son in 2015, I decided to go for it and made KELLY JO PHOTO my full-time career!
I truly love being able to document special and ordinary moments in peoples’ lives–I always try to make my client’s experience with my photo services heartfelt, energetic and human.
