Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by. My name is Kelly, and photography is my art, passion and career. It has evolved with me over the years. Aside from being a photo maker, I have the privilege of being a wife and mama to three sweet little boys, Everett, Conrad “Cash” and Jones. I am based out of San Antonio, Texas, but am available for travel!
As someone who has always appreciated photos and living creatively, I developed my heart for photography on accident while in college when I spent a month working on a documentary project on the Navajo Reservation in Tsaile, Arizona. This is where I truly began to appreciate the visual aspect of storytelling. I came home from that trip and switched my major from journalism to photojournalism so I could learn everything a Bachelor’s Degree had to offer me. Six months later, I went on another travel study to New Zealand and Australia that focused on landscape imagery. I wanted to learn it all.
My courses instilled in me a great appreciation about the technical elements, history and culture of different types of photography, but a new level of education began when I went “into the field” and started as a second shooter at weddings in 2012.
Anxious to learn, and eager to try everything, I soon began shooting portraits, concerts, professional sports, and more weddings on my own. It began as a side gig—I worked a lot of other jobs (sometimes four at once) so that I could continue to build my portfolio and clientele. I became addicted to capturing life in images and telling people’s stories.
After the birth of my first son in 2015, I decided to go for it and made KELLY JO PHOTO my full-time career!
I truly love being able to document special and ordinary moments in peoples’ lives–I always try to make my client’s experience with my photo services heartfelt, energetic and human.
