Hi there! My name is Kelly, and
I love to capture authentic moments, laughter, and beauty in the ordinary.
As someone who always appreciated photos and living creatively, I developed my heart for photography while studying at Winona State University through photo classes and on a particular travel study. I had the opportunity to partake in the Navajo Oral History project in 2012 as a journalism student (one of four “majors” I tried out), wherein I spent time on the Navajo Nation, making documentaries about the emotional and important history of Navajo elders. On this trip, I fell in love with the visual aspect of storytelling, and decided to give my interest in photography more attention. Six months later, I did a travel study in New Zealand and Australia as a photography student, and knew I was finally on the right career path.
After graduating with a BA in Photography and Digital Imaging in 2013, I worked multiple jobs at once, always pursuing photography on the side. The more people I met, the more life I wanted to capture in my photos. Eventually, I fell in love and married my husband Cory in 2014.
In 2015, after our first son Everett was born, I launched KELLY JO PHOTO as my full-time career.
Always up for an adventure, I reside in the quaint river town of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, just 40 minutes outside the Twin Cities, with my husband Cory, sons Everett and Conrad, and our dog Bella.
